Goodbye 2017, I had enough!

Dear 2017,

I was expecting more of you, but you were one huge disappointment!  You took a lot from me, more than I had anticipated.  I may have lost everything material that I worked so hard to get, but I'm thankful that I still have my family, even though now we are miles apart thanks to you! 

A lot has happened since you came along.  I've cried a lot but I've also learned a lot.  You taught me to expect the unexpected from people.  You taught me that not everyone I know is my friend.  You reminded me to be grateful every day for everything by showing me the hard way not to take anything for granted. You taught me patience by showing me that there are things in life that require more time than others, but a whole year… really? 

You showed me that money isn't everything but I already knew that.  Just let me tell you one thing… money is a necessity, bitch!  Your life lessons taught me a lot about myself too and opened my eyes to talents I didn’t know I had.  It has been rough, everything has changed, I'm nowhere near the same person I was last year.   I've always been strong but never realized how strong, until you came along.

I end the year with my hands empty ready to receive God’s blessings, because I deserve more than the lessons you gave me. 

2017 you have been one for the books, you rank as bad as or even worse than the year I met my ex, but eventually, I will forget you as well.

I am glad your time is up, so goodbye 2017, I had enough!!

My future may still look dim, but with my strong faith in God just watch me make it to the top...

Depression is an illness not a choice

Being depressed is not about being emotional or moody.  Depression is much more than just sadness.  You can’t just toughen up or get over it, it’s not that easy.  Depression is a serious medical condition that we all should be aware.

We all suffer from the normal ups and downs of life from time to time and that’s a normal reaction to life’s struggles and disappointments.  But when someone suffers from depression, the emptiness and despair doesn’t go away, it takes over their lives by interfering with their ability to study, eat, sleep, work, have fun and in general it makes it tough for them to function.  They feel helpless, hopeless, and worthless, so much that they can’t enjoy life as they once did and they want to give up.

Sometimes people dealing with depression don’t feel sad, but they feel angry and aggression.   But no matter how hopeless you feel, it can get better.   If left untreated, depression can become very serious, have long term consequences, and it could even be deadly. 

I have to confess that I used to think that people dealing with sadness could just suck it up or if they were moody they could just get over it, but I was wrong.   This year I've learned firsthand about depression, not only it deprives you of any joy you derive from life and causes you to doubt yourself but you lose interest in just about everything.  I misunderstood the signs of depression on one of my loved ones, but I’m glad to say it wasn’t too late.   It was a wakeup call for me and it scared me, especially because it was dealing with someone that I love dearly and how close I came to lose him.

The first step to overcoming the problem is to understand the signs, symptoms, causes, and treatment of depression.  If you're suffering from depression, do not suffer in silence and seek professional help!    Depression can be successfully treated and controlled.  

And remember this, there is always hope, and you should never ever give up!

When you stop looking, it will come.

Well, I don’t necessarily agree with this statement, but that is just me.  I think that if you want something in life no matter what it is, even love, you have to look for it.   

If you are looking for love, you need to put yourself out there in order to be noticed.  Pursuing love does not mean that you have to be aggressive or needy with your prospective dates. You don’t have to wear a neon sign around your neck that says, “Single and looking for Love.”  It simply means that you are willing to connect with more people and that you are receptive to being loved.   When you start actively looking for quality prospects, you greatly increase your odds of finding love.   

If you are not happy with your single status, do not wait for true love to fall into your lap.  Get out there and make it happen. You have the power to change your life.   Just relax, keep a positive attitude and do not ever stop smiling, you never know who is falling in love with your smile.

And for the rest of us that are happy with our single lifestyle of freedom and flexibility, let us keep doing what makes us happy.

Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve to be happy.  You control your life and as long as you are doing something that makes you happy, that's all that matters.  So always stay true to yourself and never ever sacrifice who you are for anyone!

My #1 Facebook Pet Peeve

There is a difference in liking yourself and being a narcissist. I for one don’t mind when someone post tasteful and occasional pictures of themselves or of their family, we all do it, including myself and there is nothing wrong with that, but when you start posting daily selfies ("HEY, LOOK AT ME!") sometimes several times a day, excuse me for saying but there is something wrong with you.

We all love the ego boost when we get compliments, but enough already, stop idolizing yourself! Remember your daily self portrait not only appears on your page but in the newsfeed of all of your connected friends, and that can be annoying.

Welcome October!   Hurry up with the fall weather, please!  I love fall, and I cannot wait for temperature to stop dropping in Houston.  This past summer was brutal, so I am excited that October is here, not just because of the beautiful weather, crisp temperature, autumn colors, but Halloween is coming too, one of my favorite holidays!

October brings many beautiful things but there is something more special and important about this month, it is Breast Cancer Awareness month and pink is everywhere.   This month helps people to remember that breast cancer does not discriminate. Young or old, male or female, it doesn’t matter your social background, if you are rich or poor, where you’re from or where you’re headed, if not diagnosed early it can kill anyone.

Almost everyone knows a loved that has been affected by breast cancer in one way or another and this times serves as a reminder to get your ta-tas checked and show your support.

Breast cancer does not mean a death sentence. Like most cancers, breast cancer is most treatable and with a very good rate of survival, if it's caught early, so if YOU LOVE EM, THEN CHECK EM!

Show your support for breast cancer survivors, and the ongoing research of finding a cure for this disease. Get Your Pink On!
